Alfred Blasi Protocol FAQs

===========================

1. How was Recuperat-ion discovered?
====================================

It was discovered in Spain by Alfred Blasi, an IT worker who was
officially diagnosed with fibromyalgia. He did his own research and
experimented with mixtures of inorganic salts, finding that the one
which worked best for him was based on the same proportions of metal
ions (Sodium, Potassium, Calcium and Magnesium) as are typically found
in human muscle cells. You can read his story

at: http://www.alfredblasi.net/eng/index.htm

Taking the salts over a period of time, Alfred eventually recovered.
He made the salts available to anyone who wanted to try them, and many
claimed they worked. News spread, and eventually the anecdotal
evidence was enough to get the salts marketed and also tested in
proper scientific studies in both private clinics and the Spanish
state medical system. The main results are due in during 2005,
but preliminary studies have been encouraging – see the files section.

2. Where can I buy it?
======================
In Spain, where it is classified as a food supplement, it is freely
available over the counter in Pharmacies. Elsewhere, where
distributors have in general not yet been set up, it is available
via the internet at:

http://www.recuperat-ion.com/eng/alvio/index.htm

(click “Buy” at bottom left).

Here you can find basic information about what it contains, and some
scientific information also (see especially the FAQs section on the
site under “Dossier”).

Click “buy” and you will go to the order page. If you click the
“choose product” box, you will be able to see what quantities and
types you can buy. prices include delivery, and are in euros.
You can find how much those prices are in your own currency at:

http://www.xe.com/ucc/

If ordering using credit card, please remember the card company may
charge a fee for currency conversion costs – so check your credit card
statement for true costs. The basic saline version costs around 45p
(approx. 80 US cents) per sachet, though the orange and lemon versions
are more expensive.

3. What’s in it?
================

All three varieties contain the exact same proportions of the key
ingredients. Here are the calculations:

Atomic weights used: Sodium (Na) 22.99; Potassium (K) 39.09; Calcium
(Ca) 40.08; Magnesium (Mg) 24.31.

Amounts of ions in Orange and Saline versions:

Na - 740mg
K - 200mg
Ca - 15mg
Mg - 15mg

Amounts of ions in Lemon version:

Na - 518mg
K - 140mg
Ca - 10mg
Mg - 10mg

The amount of each ion is divided by its atomic weight:

For Orange and Saline:

Na 740/22.99 = 32.19 …..proportion = 32.19/38.30 x 100 = 84%
K 200/39.09 = 5.12 …..proportion = 5.12/38.30 x 100 = 13%
Ca 15/40.8 = 0.37 …..proportion = 0.37/38.30 x 100 = 1%
Mg 15/24.31 = 0.62 …..proportion = 0.62/38.30 x 100 = 2%
====================
 SUM 38.30
====================

For Lemon:

Na 518/22.99 = 22.53 …..proportion = 22.53/26.77 x 100 = 84%
K 140/39.09 = 3.58 …..proportion = 3.58/26.77 x 100 = 13%
Ca 10/40.8 = 0.25 …..proportion = 0.25/26.77 x 100 = 1%
Mg 10/24.31 = 0.41 …..proportion = 0.41/26.77 x 100 = 2%

====================
SUM 26.77
====================

The base saline version is best if you want to avoid any colorants or
sweeteners. If you find the taste unpalatable, it can be mixed
with fruit juices – but avoid mixing with any other drinks based around
salt mixtures. Some report that they sprinkle it on food like a
condiment – but it is by far best to take it with water.

4. How does it work?
====================

Alfred believes that the symptoms FMS and related conditions are
caused by a massive loss of ions at a cellular level.  This ion loss
can happen for different reasons; viral or bacterial infection,
physical or psychological stress, trauma and so on.

Alfred’s formula is designed to help restore the ionic balance in your
body.

There is sound science to support Alfred’s theory. The winner of the
2003 Nobel prize for Chemistry is the American scientist Roderick
Mackinnon. He has published literature on the importance of sodium,
potassium and calcium ions in the structure of the cells. He has
concluded that if these ions are unbalanced, it is very possible that
muscular, cardiovascular or endocrine diseases may develop as a result.

5. How and when should I take it?
=================================

Alfred’s advice is that if your worst symptom is fatigue, then you
should use the lemon version, as this contains additional glucose and
fructose.

If your worst symptom is pain, then go for the orange or the saline
versions, as these deliver slightly more ions; there is no difference
between these last two other than flavouring and artificial sweeteners.

Take one sachet in the morning, diluted in either 250ml or 500ml of
water, an hour before and after other food or medication. Take a
similar dose in the evening.  That’s all. Some may fare better on one
sachet a day, but that is the recommended minimum. If one is having a
bad day, one can take an extra sachet or two, but beyond four sachets,
there’s reckoned to be little if any extra benefit.

6. Does the kind of water I use matter?
=======================================

Alfred thinks not – tap or bottled (even if it contains mineral traces).
There may be a slight difference of opinion here with Dr. Roses (they
don’t agree on everything!), who recommends avoiding waters with
(relatively) high amounts of the same mineral ions as in Recup.

7. Are there any precautions?
=============================

If you have been restricted by your doctor in taking any of the ions
in Recuperation, then you need to discuss taking it with him. If you
have high blood pressure, for example, you may have a restricted
sodium diet and may need to reduce sodium intake elsewhere.

If you are taking prescription medications, then you should continue
to take them according to your doctor’s instructions, and not stop or
reduce them without his consent.

If you take self-prescribed high-dose supplements of calcium or
magnesium, and wish to continue doing so, then please leave a couple
of hours before or after taking Recup to minimise risks of
interference with the ions in Recup. Low doses of any of the ions
found in Recup found in fillers, etc, should be OK.

The quantities of each ion are very small and do not exceed European
daily recommended quantities in and of themselves. The Spanish Health
Ministry has classified Recuperat-ion as a food without side effects
or contraindications.

8. Does it interfere with other treatments?
===========================================

There have been anecdotal reports from those taking guai (applies
pretty much exclusively in the English-speaking world) that somehow
Recup accentuates its effects, that is, seems to make enhance
the so-called “cycling” symptoms. This does not happen for everyone,
and some carry on taking both quite happily. But those who suspect
this is happening may decide to give up guai.

If you decide to do this, then it’s said that doing it gradually is
best – see:

http://www.customhps.com/Guai_Discont.htm

It’s also reported by some that there can be withdrawal effects from
guai, and so lingering effects from this might confuse the picture.
Some give up guai just on the principle that it makes it easier to
monitor what’s happening on Recup.

It’s entirely up to you to make your choice. If you do continue with
guai, then your guai group can support you with that as usual, and you
can get your Recup support here.

9. Why can’t I just get the same results from other calcium and
magnesium supplements?
================================================================

Alfred’s formula is based on very precise proportions of mineral ions:
he believes that this balance is critical to their effectiveness in
muscle cells. The proportions in Recuperat-ion match exactly those
found in healthy muscle.

The balanced formula means that you don’t need large quantities of
mineral salts to get a positive effect. You don’t get the same balance
from conventional calcium and magnesium supplements.

10. When can I expect to feel some improvement?
===============================================

Some people have reported improvements within days of starting on
Recuperat-ion, but you need to be patient, and remember that no one is
claiming that taking the salts will cure you. Some people in this
group have noticed an improvement in mood and a greater sense of
well-being within the first week.  Within 2-3 weeks, some say that
they are sleeping better, and waking more refreshed; pain seems
less intense.  Alfred advises people to be patient – it’s a process
that takes months rather than weeks; he says that some people only
notice improvements after 6-7 months.

If you do start to feel better, pace yourself and take things slowly.
Alfred says that the main causes of relapses in the early stages are
people who forget that they are ill, and then overdo things.

What should I do if I start feeling worse or have a relapse?

First of all, don’t panic.  All sorts of things can make us feel
worse, and it doesn’t necessarily mean that Recuperat-ion isn’t
working for you.  Alfred  suggests that you take an extra sachet
of Recuperat-ion per day (up to a maximum of 3 sachets) until you
start feeling better.

How long will I need to take it for?

This varies from person to person.  If you find that Recuperat-ion
works for you, Alfred says you should expect to have to take it for at
least a year.

How long you need to take it for doesn’t depend on how long you have
been ill or how ill you are: what counts is the rate at which your
body can reabsorb the appropriate ions.  This varies between people.

Some people find that once they have had lasting improvement, they can
reduce their dose to one sachet per day, and then down to one every
two days.  However, reducing the dose too soon can make you feel worse
again. You need to find what works for you.

11. What proof is there that Recuperat-ion works?
=================================================

Alfred claims that he was cured of FMS (he has medical evidence for
this – published on his website – which shows that he was ill, and
that he is better), but does not claim that his formula will do the
same for anyone else.

However, there is a growing and persuasive amount of anecdotal
evidence from FMS/CFS sufferers in Spain and elsewhere that they are
feeling better after taking Recuperat-ion over a period of months.
Some report improvements within days.  However, these are personal
testimonies, and do not count as formal scientific evidence.

Recuperat-ion is currently the subject of clinical trials in state-run
hospitals in Spain and in private pain clinics there. There is
already published clinical evidence that it has a positive effect on
the recovery of healthy muscles after exercise – more details are on
Alfred’s website.

12 Can one confuse Fibromyalgia with other pathologies?
=======================================================

The classic  diagnosis of Fibromyalgia is made when pressure on 11 to
18 different pressure points in the body causes pain. But according to
many specialists, 40% of patients diagnosed with fibromylagia my have
another problem. So getting a diagnosis confirmation by one or more
Rheumatologists is desirable.

Other possible causes of Fibromyalgia-like symptoms, and which may be
treatable, are as follows.

Many diseases can initially present the same symptoms as fibromyalgia,
e.g. Sclerosis and Leukaemia. But these conditions may also be possible:

o Rheumatic arthritis,
o Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
o Sjoergen’s Syndrome
o Subclinical deificiency of Vitamin D with Secondary Hyperparathyroidism
o Hypothyroid myopathy
o Antiphospholipid syndrome
o Arthrosis from bad ergonomic conditions at work/home
o Multiskeletal contractions due to mental stress
o Osteopenia
o Myopathies derived from viral diseases
o Neuromuscular affectation syndrome
o Mitochondrial myopathy
o Chronic fatigue due to Anemia or Iron deficiency
o Osteoporosis
o Rheumatic Polymyalgia
o Temporary athritis
o Autoimmune Diabetes mellitus
o Autoimmune adrenal diseases
o Scleroderma
o Heavy metal poisoning, e.g. Mercury
o Endocrine diseases in general may cause pain in muscles

13. Does anyone have a commercial interest in it?
=================================================

Absolutely not. Alfred gave the patent to the laboratory that
currently manufactures and distributes it. His aims in doing so
were to ensure that the formula would be available to as many
people as possible, and that there were assurances of proper
investigations being carried out to test its efficacy (i.e. to
determine whether it was truly effective in the treatment of FMS,
or simply a placebo). The only money Alfred received was in
reimbursement of what it cost him to register the patent and the
name of the formula, meaning that he has made not a single penny
from his discovery.

The company itself took on the commitment to make the
investigations and also shouldered the financial risks involved.
It is now a successful product taken by people all over the world
and marketed at a commercial price. One must realise that the
company, like any other business enterprise, needs to make a
profit, but the price is comparable with sachets of other OTC
remedies (e.g. lemon flu powders). The laboratory has also been
very helpful in enabing purchasers to try out sachets of different
flavours at no extra cost (please see point 14).

Anyone who has dealt with Alfred soon comes to realise his
integrity and genuine desire to help people. He gives up a lot
of his personal time to help FMS sufferers and still carries on
with his ordinary day job as his only source of income.

Alfred is a genuine, old-fashioned, good person, however unlikely that
seems in this day and age. He makes no extravagant claims or promises,
just wants people to try Recup and make up their own minds about it.
No one will frown on you if you decide it is not for you.

No one who is a member of the list has a financial interest either.
The ethos of the group is simply to take Recup pending the results of
scientific studies; if it results in improvements, that is fine; if
not, that is also fine, and members are encouraged to report effects
whether they think them positive or negative as we are trying to build
up a source of information and support.

14.Can I try all three flavours?

(added 17/3/05)

A. In future, anyone ordering the lowest amounts of Recup
available (40 doses of any particular flavour) will also
receive one of each of the other flavours not ordered.

This means, for example, that if you order 40 doses of
the saline version, you will also receive 1 sachet of the
lemon and 1 sachet of the orange version. This will only
apply to the 40-dose orders, not to any others. This
minimises the amount you will have to spend in order to
try the three flavours.

B. If you have been ordering a certain type of Recup and
want to try the others, then you will be able to get a
free sample of one of each of the other two flavours. In
order to obtain these, you would send them an email copy
of a confirmation from them of a prior order, along with
the address to which the free samples should be sent.

If you couldn’t find that email copy, then you could send
them an email using the same email address as you used to
order the Recup, and include your delivery address in
that. They will check if you are on file as having
ordered Recup before (they only keep email addresses and
no other information), and if you have, send you the free
samples.

You should write to info@recuperat-ion.com, placing the
words “samples-consumer” in the subject line of your
email, telling them your name, address and the two types
you want to receive.

It’s entirely up to you to make your choice. If you do continue with

can get your Recup support here.

9. Why can’t I just get the same results from other calcium and
magnesium supplements?
================================================================

===============================================

=================================================

=======================================================

The classic  diagnosis of Fibromyalgia is made when pressure on 11 to
18 different pressure points in the body causes pain. But according to
many specialists, 40% of patients diagnosed with fibromylagia my have
another problem. So getting a diagnosis confirmation by one or more
Rheumatologists is desirable.

Other possible causes of Fibromyalgia-like symptoms, and which may be
treatable, are as follows.

Many diseases can initially present the same symptoms as fibromyalgia,
e.g. Sclerosis and Leukaemia. But these conditions may also be possible:

o Rheumatic arthritis,
o Systemic Lupus Erythematosus
o Sjoergen’s Syndrome
o Subclinical deificiency of Vitamin D with Secondary Hyperparathyroidism
o Hypothyroid myopathy
o Antiphospholipid syndrome
o Arthrosis from bad ergonomic conditions at work/home
o Multiskeletal contractions due to mental stress
o Osteopenia
o Myopathies derived from viral diseases
o Neuromuscular affectation syndrome
o Mitochondrial myopathy
o Chronic fatigue due to Anemia or Iron deficiency
o Osteoporosis
o Rheumatic Polymyalgia
o Temporary athritis
o Autoimmune Diabetes mellitus
o Autoimmune adrenal diseases
o Scleroderma
o Heavy metal poisoning, e.g. Mercury
o Endocrine diseases in general may cause pain in muscles

13. Does anyone have a commercial interest in it?
=================================================
